Geisha's lips

Here is a shot of the bandstand in the abandoned Halifax Public Gardens. It was taken on a moody day through two prongs of the iron post fence surrounding the garden. TH said the shot reminded him of a geisha's lips. So TH, I give you Geisha's Lips on Valentine's Day.

Spectacular picture GT - so aesthetically pleasing yet functional and fun that it calls to mind my iMac, or MacBookPro, or maybe (grail of grails) the iPhone

A beautiful shot .... and to GT readers, amazingly the colours were that vivid on the day ... cus I saw them! Thanks GT for the generous attribution ... although I think it was the colour I saw, against a 'powdered face' ... it was you who saw the form!

Yes, TB the geisha's lips probably look better on your Mac than my PC

Oops! I mean it looks better on your mac than it does on my typewriter. What do smug mac people have to say about typewriters I wonder?

It looks quiet and lonely there. Great picture.

Why is the garden abandoned? It looks very well kept for a garden not in use.. Great pic though..

thnx Rowan,
And good question. They close it every winter to "protect it" from people trampling over the flower beds etc. But this closure is very controversial. If people don't trample the beds in the summer, why would they in winter?

I suspect the picture looks spectacular on any monitor.

Rowan has a great point - as the gardens would be a wonderful place for a quiet contemplative walk in the winter. The likely reason for the closure is that the Gardens is run by a committee of persons of similar mind to those who run Point Pleasant Park and ban bicycles on the weekends - why would we want to encourage kids and families to cycle there together - its not like there's an obesity epidemic or anything, and besides - they can just drive there and then walk around - its not like there's global warming (although - if there was - maybe they wouldn't hve to close the Garden's for winter...

No, rant continues:

Or what about the NS Department of Health Promotions spending $300,000 to build a website that tells parents and kids how they can stay active....
meanwhile the public tennis courts at the local public school (gym closed in summer) remain cracked, netless and derelict ...
dont' get me started.

Beautiful shot and excellent form spotting!

At least your department of health can spent some money; it was released this morning on the radio that a hospital over here (uk) is taking every third light bulb out of low usage areas to save cash. Then it was also revealed that the neighbouring hospital had five senior managers overseeing 20 porters, now that’s good management I don’t think! My rant over..

Thanks, dale. The geisha form suggestion came long after the shot was taken, but it's nice to think I might have had something to say about it...

Yes Ro, I know. I heard it on the Beeb this morning too.
I did the NSH too. Two kids born of it. Your remember?
I can tell you stories about the NHS. Just ask me.

Our wedding photos were taken in PG in 1994; end of May - my feet froze in leather pumps...

Thanks Linda, I can imagine the PG was cold in May.

Welcome to GT!
