Defiant winter berries

These berries defy the freezing winds blowing over the sand dune of a Northumberland beach. By the end of the shoot, fingers were frozen and the camera locked up, but the berries refused to be intimidated by the cold.

Hi GiftedTypist,

I found your blog by random and wanted to leave a comment on the berry pictures, beautiful photography : ) I haven't had that much luck when shooting close ups with my digital camera yet!

Cool berries or maybe I should say cold berries. They are great pictures. Where were they taken exactly?

Thank you. They were taken on Chance Harbour Beach on the Northumberland Stait. The ripe-red fruit seems so out of place against the frozen backdrop

I'm 90% sure the pictures are of wild rose hips.

Rose-hip ice cream comes to mind. Someone call Ben and Jerry!

I wish you'd stop talking about the cold, frozen fingers, locked cameras and ice cream, I'm shivering to death
